Creating New Pages
1. If you are not already logged in, log in using your username and password.
2. Select the “Stories” link from the top “Editor Only” menu at the top of the page.
3. A list of existing stories (pages) will be displayed. Click on the “Create a new story” link.
4. A new page should now be displayed with text boxes for the “Title” of the page, along with a text box for the text and HTML
5. To create the page you must enter some text. Enter text into the text box. (refer to “The Toolbar” and “Editing an Existing Page” for details)
6. Click on the “Post Changes” button to activate the page. The page you have created will now appear on your list of pages (stories)
Note:
• It may take a few seconds to upload the page after clicking on the “Post New Story” button.
• A “story” is another term for a page.
• Once a story has been added it can be linked to from other stories (pages) or linked to from your LH site homepage, by adding a link to the site navigation bar on the left-hand side of the screen (refer to “Adding a new page to the site navigation bar” section for details).
• When using Netscape, the page displayed, will be slightly different. The toolbar above the “Text:” text box will not be present. To format text in this situation, HTML tags will need to be added manually (refer to “HTML References” for links to documentation on HTML.
• It is also possible to create a page using an HTML editor, and then copy the relevant HTML code from the file it generates into the “Text:” text box. ( If help is needed contact the Living Heritage Coordinator)
• It is also possible to copy text from a word processing package into the textbox. Note, that special characters (like bullet points) may not appear correctly. (see the hints page for help with cutting and pasting text)
